Saturday afternoon sees the Beachboys continue their national league South campaign on the road to 3rd placed. Welling United.
Nicknamed the ‘Wings’, Welling United play their home matches at Park View Road, a stadium with a capacity of 4,000 (1,000 seated) that has seen an average of 753 through the gate so far this season.
The ‘Wings’ were founded in 1963 (Just 4 years before Concord Rangers was found!) and have won 7 cups/ titles in their 55 year history including that of the National League South title and Kent senior Cup (on three occasions). Our opponents who play in red and white have also managed to get into the third round of the FA Cup in 1988/89 making them one of few non League teams to have done so.
Managed by Steve King, the ‘Wings’ currently sit in a comfortable 3rd pace on 38 points (Joint with Concord) and a +15 goal difference compared to that of the Beachboys 38 points and +10 goal difference. A win for either side could see them on the heels of Torquay United and Woking who sit in the top 2. However manager, Sammy Moore won’t be looking for the same result as the previous game where the Beachboys were thrashed 5-0 on their home turf earlier in the season by Saturdays opponents.
Head to head this game would look to be in the Beachboys favour if you look at the stats of previous matches, in the last five game, Welling United have won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1, losing to Hampton and Richmond Borough and Torquay United both of which were away but the ‘Wings’ managed a win against Hungerford Town at home and Dartford on boxing day infront of almost 2000 people at Park View Road.
Meanwhile the Beachboys have won 3 of their last five matches, two of which were at home and the other most recently, away to East Thurrock United. Elsewhere we drew twice coming from Bath City and Chippenham Town.
The Beachboys have scored a rather impressive ten goals in the last 5 outings and only conceding 3. While our Opponents have only managed to score 5 and concede a dismal 6.
There’s not much teams news to report on for the Beachboys other than the fact Alex Wall and Connor Essam should be available to play as Alex’s suspension doesn’t start until the new year while Connor comes back from his red card vs Hemel Hempstead.
Kick off is 3pm at Park View Road, we know we always say it but make some noise for Sammy Moore and the lads as it can make a real difference especially in a tough match like this.
