National League South
Concord Rangers 0
Maidenhead United 1
A early top versus bottom clash between the Beachboys and the Magpies was edged by the visitors on a blustery day at the Aspect Arena.
Harry Pritchard’s goal enough to gift his side the points in a very closely contested match.
It was the hosts who started sharper, and with some neat play allowed Dean Mason position to shoot, which he put narrowly wide of the mark.
Young Harvey Hodd was next to test the waters. His left wing run, and cut inside culminated in a deflected strike saved comfortably by Carl Pentney, low to his left.
The impressive former St Albans midfield maestro James Comley created some space to shoot but only managed to stiff it straight at Ben McNamara in the Concord goal.
As Maidenhead enjoyed greater possession, their confidence grew, and with it almost came the opener. James Mulley had the ball fall fortuitously for him, with only a handful of yards to the goal, he poked wide of the right hand post.
The black and whites were now in the ascendancy as Alan Massey put his head to a in-swinging corner which was untidily hacked off the line and clear.
Concord came out looking a little more determined in the second period, and fashioned a wonderful chance for Joao Carlos. A swift flowing move, with Carlos receiving a pass and rifling a left footed effort bound for the top left corner drawing a spectacular save from Pentney.
Both sides were now struggling for creativity before the Magpies took the initiative. Sean Marks squandered a glorious chance, when well placed to score, flashing his strike wide right. This disappointment was soon turned to jubilation for the league leaders as Pritchard stepped up to swing in a wide placed free-kick which evaded all comers and nestled in the back of the net.
The game duly petered out due to stout defending and Maidenhead returned home very pleased with their afternoons work.
