Eastbourne Borough 1
Wells (OG) 88
Concord back to winning ways with this narrow victory over fellow strugglers Eastbourne, Ben Greenhalgh’s brace proving the difference.
The Beachboys started brightly and were awarded a spot kick with Femi Akinwande being felled. Greenhalgh took responsibility and belted the ball home for the lead.
Wasn’t long before Greenhalgh doubled his and his teams tally, with Akinwande playing a part again before the former followed up Steve Cawley’s saved strike and tucked away tidily.
Borough had a rather contentious penalty decision of their own be waved away but it was the hosts who looked most likely to score again. Greenhalgh saw numerous opportunities pass to bag his hat-trick with a powerful left footed strike narrowly missing the top right corner before he hit the post with a wonderful curling effort from 20 yards.
The visitors were gifted a fortuitous goal to reduce the arrears late on when an attempted clearance hit custodian Louis Wells on the back and flew into the net.
Cawley came close to adding a third in injury time having struck a pile-driver free kick which grazed past the left upright.
