ECKO         (1) 2

    vs

CONCORD (3) 4

Concord u12 continue to grow in stature after an emphatic away win over Ecko Whitecaps in the league in difficult blustery conditions.. and not withstanding having two players out ill leaving them with only 8 fit players.

Concord surprisingly (not) lost the toss and played with the wind, and within 10 seconds from kick off after a Nathan hassled the home defenders as BaileyP got clear to bustle the ball into the net and put them 0-1 up …. What a start!

The game continued the same way with Concord’s superior play gaining possession and constantly attacking even though the wind was very strong. However they created many chances and that pressure delivered the second goal in a similar pattern when Nathan headed in from close range from Sam’s right wing cross they were cruising at  0-2 up with the wind.  Even the keeper Romie’s drop kicks gave the home keeper some nightmares as he misjudged a few times.. However a hopeful long ball forward by Ecko resulted in the home side poking home past Romie so 1-2 and game on. But Concord again showed good character and kept working hard and that pressure very quickly created another chance that saw Nathans cross/shot fall to BaileyP who again bundled the ball home for 1-3 lead at half time..

Second half and the wind against Concord was a good test, but the team stayed firm in centre midfield with Ellis and BaileyP sorting it out between them.  The team passed the ball well creating many counter attacking moves with Sam on the right and Max on the left with Nathan being virtually the lone ranger up front with his pace, skill and power keeping 3 home defenders busy and taking pressure of his 8 man team mates..

The 2nd half saw a little more attacking by Ecko but the defensive due of BaileyR and Ben held firm.  A few long balls from Ecko resulted in corners in swinging from Ecko caused Concord some problems and it was their second goal that came from a corner being headed in at the far post.    But a  man of the match performance by stand in keeper Romie in goal, making a string fine saves one in particular after he tried to anticipate the longer ball, but a pacey in swinging corner from the right curl low into the near post, but he dived back into goal and a superb one handed save pushed around the post.

But a strong run down the right saw Sam smash the ball into the top corner to make it 2-4 at the final whistle..  Concord u12 now lay 2nd in the league and look good to continue challenge on all fronts (league and 2 cups)!
