Concord Rangers 2
Wall 26, 79
Gloucester City 0
New era Concord Rangers make a flying start under the tutelage of manager Sammy Moore with a comprehensive win over visiting Gloucester City.
Alex Wall only signed for the Beachboys three days ago and took little time to announce his arrival with a neat brace at a scorching Aspect Arena.
Concord were knocking hard on the door by the time they took the lead. A knockdown header into the path of Wall saw him turn his marker before delivering a sharp shot into the back of the net.
The hosts were really putting City under pressure as Jack Midson rose highest at the back post to head against the crossbar.
Referee Packman produced a controversial red card on the half time whistle as Joe Hanks and Lee Minshull clashed, the latter being given his marching orders.
Concord down to ten men weren’t to be denied though and still looked dangerous in the second half. Danny Green came close to doubling the lead with an audaciously attempted 35 yard lob which Matt Yates did brilliantly to keep out.
The points were secure as Wall scored his second. A wonderful ball saw him control and strike powerfully past Yates to complete a pleasing opening days work and send the Tigers home with their tails between their legs.
