Club History.
Concord Rangers originated from the president Abert Lant forming a side to compete in the Vange & District League
in 1967.
The club took its name from a local beach Concord beach.
After various promotions & success through the seventies & eighties
The club eventually found itself in the Essex Intermediate league.
In 1985 the club secured the lease of a derelict parcel of land in Thames Road from the local council.
And with Jack Smith being the mastermind behind the self build project,Organising funds, voluntary labour & materials
the work began to build one of the best facilities in the area.
Special recognition should go to Jacks brother the late Clive Smith & various others including Barry Clarke, Rob
Fletcher,Eddie Giles,Steve Barnes, Martin Gill, Kevin Gill,Alan Greengrass & Chris Crerie.
Season 1990/91 saw a cup double in the lntermediate and this is when the club stepped up to the next level.
The first few seasons were a great learning curve for the club 9th being the highest position achieved in the first four
seasons.
But with the arrival of some fresh faces the club had some better times under the chairmanship of Grant Beglan.
With the denial of Ryman league football the club was thrown into turmoil in 1997 when the whole of the management team,
players & Chairman left for pastures new.
But one person who did stay behind was a certain Lee Patterson
who took on the task of 1st team manager and went on to win the league title.
In the past 11 seasons the club has maintained a top half position in no less than 9 times(a great achievement for such
a young club).
In more recent times the club has had the honour of winning the Championship once more in 2003/04.
With Jacks son Antony Smith taking the Chairmans role in 1999 and Aspect Contracts remaining as the clubs main sponser
the future is bright and we feel that promotion to the next level is overdue.
