A fan favourite has returned to the Beachboys this summer, Lewis Taaffe is back for the 2017/2018 and he is well aware of the fan’s affections “Concord have a tight knit bunch of fans, who get right behind the team even when we’re not playing well.  That extra drive can push us on.  It certainly inspires me.”

With Lewis returning he gets to rekindle his bromance with Steve Cawley “I hope we can take off where we left off in 2016/2017, we have  great relationship on and off the pitch, which really benefits both of us.  I’ll be playing a little wider this season, so I’ll be putting crosses on a plate for him, he’s just got to knock them in haha!.  There have been a number of changes of the club this summer, but I know a few of the new lads already, so I’m sure we’ll all settle in just fine.”

What may not be known is that every year Lewis has played for the Beachboys he has won a trophy, something that Lewis is fully aware of “It would be great to get the Essex Senior Cup back to it’s rightful home, and why not put Concord back on the national footballing map with another great FA Cup run. I still look back fondly to the time we got to the 1st Round of the FA Cup.  We should be looking to aim for a top 10 finish in the league and with the money a good cup run brings, this can only benefit the club in the long run.”

So why did Lewis return after spells at Hemel Hempstead and Billericay – “The main reason I came back was my love for the club itself. I’ve had so many good times here, and let’s not forget the club is operating at a good level of football playing in the Conference South.  It’s always nice to have the opportunity to try and make it to the National League. So why don’t we go for it!”
