A strong first half performance helps Concord win their 3rd successive game of preseason.

Scopes once again divided his team into two XI’s, giving the players an opportunity to gain some minutes in the busy preseason period.

Young striker, Alex Hernandez, who came through the youth ranks at the Beach Boys scored his first senior goal. Wall was through on goal but his shot saved by the goalkeeper, who pushed it into the path of Hernandez allowing the young striker to smash the ball into the net to make it 0-1.

It was only 3 minutes later where Hernandez had the ball in the back of the net again, but the offside flag was up to prevent him of his brace. More chances arrived for Hernandez and Concord but the East Thurrock goalkeeper, Janata, kept his side in the game.

It wasn’t until the 37th minute where the Beach Boys managed to get another. This time it was summer arrival, Odei Martin. Alex Wall once again was involved, grabbing his second assist of the afternoon. The tall striker served the ball on a plate for the midfielder to smash it into the bottom corner.

Just before the break, Haigh made his first save and an impressive one it was. Strong winds caused the ball from the free-kick to move around, making it difficult for the keeper. However, Haigh was able to tip the ball over the bar.

Many changes at halftime, including the weather, saw a different game take stage. The half started very similar to how the previous ended, with Concord on top. Jordan turning his defender before laying a beautifully weighed pass to Remfry, who used a very similar skill to open up space and sizzle the ball into the bottom corner.

The rain fell harder, and East Thurrock were looking to get back into the game. Concord, with half their Under 18 team on, struggled to produce many chances in the second half to capitalise on their strong performance. Two goals in the last 30 minutes for East Thurrock wasn’t enough to get something from the friendly, but definitely caused a few nerves for the visitors.
