Match Report

CONCORD were in full flight as they grounded hapless Farnborough, writes Jack Smith.

The Beachboys continued where they left off from last week’s 4-0 FA Trophy win over Boreham Wood and were in the ascendancy from the first whistle.

The lively Lewis Taaffe should have opened the scoring when one-on-one with Fulham loanee keeper Dillon Barnes, but his tame effort was cleared off the line.

Taaffe then went close again and saw his strike tipped wide of the post before Jack Lampe put a header over the crossbar with an empty net to aim at.

The hosts could easily have been four in front by the time the lead was taken when man-of-the-match Joe Gardner robbed the ball off Oli Treacher and then fired in off the post.

Gardner doubled the lead when a ferociously struck shot from an acute angle beat Barnes, crashing into the top left hand corner.

Taaffe finally got himself on the score-sheet when he took advantage of some sloppy defending and nipped in to clip the ball inside the bottom right.

Concord turned the screw in the second half and a fourth was added by Gary Ogilvie when he capitalised on a poorly cleared header and struck a first time volley through the legs of Barnes.

Sub Steve Cawley scored arguably the goal of the match. A pin perfect cross from Gardner found Cawley arriving at the back post and he headed powerfully into the top left corner.

Then another substitute got in on the act as Cawley turned provider to cross perfectly for Taylor Miles to smash his volley home.

The rout was polished off with a goal from the excellent Sam Collins. He was played through on goal by Miles before effortlessly placing the ball into the bottom right corner to condemn the visiting Farnborough to a second humiliating defeat in as many years at The Aspect – following last year’s 5-0 thrashing.
