Adam, two months now in the role of Head of player recruitment, how have you found it so far?

Its been good. I have really enjoyed the new challenge and am enjoying the new level. I am learning all the time too. The most pleasing element for me has been the response I have had from the current boys. They have been brilliant and made me feel so welcome. That was probably my biggest concern when I made the move but that says everything about the group to be honest. The togetherness within the group is fantastic and its no wonder we have had a great season so far. The Gaffa, Mids, Daz and Scopesy have also made me feel at home so I am proud to be part of it. Hopefully I have added something to the group also in my short space of time. Although one of my main roles is to help improve the playing squad, I also try and improve things on matchdays also. It’s the little things that hopefully get the extra percent out of the boys!

Would we be correct in saying the fans have really welcomed you?

They have been good, hopefully they can see the hard work we all put in to make the club better. The travelling support is building too so that certainly helps on away days. There’s nothing better than seeing the fans behind the goal on long trips.

You’ve been involved in a number of signings for the club, how’s that been?

It’s certainly been alot tougher than I thought to be honest. I thought we could just go and sign players whenever we wanted but it’s obviously so different to the levels below with contracts etc.

What the club has achieved this season is just incredible with the resources we have. We had it at Heybridge (Swifts) last year, when you do well people’s perception is that it’s all about the amount of money you have. In one way we should find it a compliment but on the other hand you wish they knew the truth. We have a very dedicated group who are all willing to give there all to the staff and each other, there are no egos and that gets you points alone. That’s why we have to be very selective with who we bring in, they not only have to be the right player on the pitch but off the field is also very important.

It’s been harder to bring players in because of where we are in the season also so it’s a bit of a slow burner but hopefully the select few we bring in help get us over the line and into the playoffs.

One I was delighted to be able to bring was Luque. Obviously I know him well from my time at Heybridge and Jody Brown also helped with getting him into us. He’s a quality footballer and when we get him match fit and firing he could be the difference for us. He’s also a great lad with a great work ethic so I’m excited to see what he can do. He’s one of those players that excited you when he has the ball and your always expecting something special to happen.

We’re now at the business end of the season, do you think this squad has what it takes to push on up the league?

100%. Like I touched on earlier we have that togetherness and money can’t buy that. The whole club is united and although we have drawn a few games recently it’s been fine margins not turning them into wins. We have only lost 1 game in 12 so that shows you we’re very hard to beat. The sendings off haven’t helped us but I think they have all been slightly harsh and have all been at vital times in games. Billericay and Dartford just stick in my mind as they were games we were well on top and looking likely winners until the sendings offs happened. If we can start keeping 11 on the pitch it would help 🙂 Hopefully we start converting those draws to wins this weekend and we get back in those playoffs but I believe come the end of April we will be in and amongst it!

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, Adam. You’ve certainly made a big difference since joining us, your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. We’ll hear more from Adam in the future on our special website features.
