Welcome to View From The Opposition. This is our website feature that we will be putting out every week ahead of our upcoming matches this season. This weekend sees the Beachboys travelling to The AGP Arena to take on Billericay Town for our 2nd Vanarama National League South game of the season and we’ve got one fan interview for you all to read.

Success, controversy and memorable. Thats definitely 3 words to describe how the last 18 months have been for Billericay fans. 18 months ago, they were getting crowds of just about 200-400. They’re now reaching double that at points during the season and its all arguably due to one man buying the club. That man is Glenn Tamplin.

The born-again Christian was close to buying National League side Dagenham & Redbridge back in 2016 but that soon fell through. In comes Billericay come December 2016. A club with good transport links to London and Southend being available (well most of the time with Greater Anglia).

Since Tamplins arrival, former-Premier League players Paul Konchesky and Jamie O’Hara have played for the club whilst Jermaine Pennant has showed up for a spell alongside Kevin Foley, Sanchez Watt alongside many other big names. One man who continues to impress since his arrival is Jake Robinson.

Last season came along and beforehand had seen Mr Tamplin say that the club were going to go the season unbeaten. That lasted long….well not really as the club lost 1-0 to Kingstonian in front of a massive home crowd. Of course, the club went on to have a brilliant run the FA Cup upto the First Round Proper and winning the Isthmian League Cup and Essex Senior Cup alongside the Bostik Premier League.

We spoke with Blues fan, Ben Mapp to find out a little more about the club:

1 – What has it been like supporting Billericay Town over the last few years?

The last couple of seasons have been amazing. It’s been a roller coaster ride ever since Glenn (Tamplin) took over in 2016. The treble last season was incredible, something that I doubt I’ll ever seen again. I am confident that this season can produce similar results.

2- How Do Think Pre-Season Went For The Club?

Pre Season went well, especially drawing against Ebbsfleet and beating Maidstone, two very strong National League sides. Wins against Aveley, St James Swifts and Biggleswade also helped give players some important minutes and get some goals too. The West Ham game was a slight learning curve due to a 4-0 defeat, but again it was a good workout for the team.

3 – What Are Your Hopes For The Season Ahead?

My hopes for this season are to be up in the play offs for the whole season, and possibly challenge for the title, however this league is extremely tough and unpredictable so who knows what could happen. I also think we can retain the Essex Senior Cup, as well as have good runs in the FA Cup and FA Trophy, something that was also achieved last season.

4 – Who are the key players that we should be looking out for this Saturday?

Obviously I don’t want to give too much away!! That Jake Robinson guy is decent I suppose…

5 – What Is Your Predicting Starting 11 For The Game?

I’d start unchanged from the magnificent against Truro:
Alan Julian
Joe Kizzi
Scott Doe
Dean Inman
Callum Kennedy
Danny Waldren
Sammy Deering
Jake Howells
Ricky Modeste
Adam Coombes
Jake Robinson
