This Saturday sees us welcome our friends from Colchester United for our second pre-season friendly with this being the first at The Aspect Arena as part of our upcoming preparations for the 2018/19 Vanarama National League South campaign.
This game will be Sammy Moore’s home debut game as manager of the Beachboys. Most of our new signings could be set start their first home game at this game. We come into this game following a 4-0 victory away at Brentwood Town whilst the U’s Under 23 side come into this following a 4-1 victory over Newbury Forest last Saturday.
The U’s finished in 13th place in their 2nd season back in League 2 with 62 points earned. The U’s fell at the first hurdle of the EFL Cup with a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa before losing 1-0 at the first hurdle to National League South side Oxford City in the FA Cup 1st Round. They also failed to go past the EFL Trophy group stages by only winning 2 points in a group that included Gillingham, Southend United and Reading Under 21’s.
The U23’s squad squad finished 7th this season in the Professional Development League whilst they exited the Premier League Cup group stages whilst the Under 18’s reached the 5th round of the FA Youth Cup.
Former-Beachboys striker Jordan Chiedozie used to play for the club before moving to us several years ago whilst current-defender Sean Clohessy played for the side during the 2014-15 season where he made 32 appearances for the U’s.
Admission for the game is set at £12 Adults, £7 Concessions and £3 Kids and kick-off is at 3pm.
We will also be showing the FIFA World Cup 3rd Placed Play-Off between England and Belgium at 3pm whilst our game is on.
We wish all of our supporters and the travelling U’s supporters a safe trip to Thames Road as always and look forward to seeing many of you turning out to support Sammy Moore’s side in action for the first of many home games this season.
