Going into his third season with the Club, Billy Roast is looking forward to getting it underway. The versatile defender has made 89 competitive games for the Beach Boys and will hope to make his 90ththis weekend in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round against Potters Bar Town.
“I’m really looking forward to playing again competitively! I also can’t wait to play for this Club for the 3rd season.”
The Beach Boys have only made the First Round of the FA Cup once, in 2014, against Mansfield Town. The initial tie ended 1-1, forcing a replay at the Aspect Arena where Concord just fell short in a 1-0 defeat.
“This competition is huge.”
“To qualify for the First Round Proper, it’s something every non-league player wants to achieve. But to do with Concord, it’s a dream!”
This weekend’s game will be the Beach Boys’ second competitive match in over six months, the first being the FA Trophy Semi-final win against Halesowen Town. The squad has seen quite a change in the long off-season, but Roast is excited about the prospect of the near season and what it will bring, especially with the new additions made in the summer by Danny Scopes and his management team.
“I’m feeling really positive. The new signings are a great bunch of lads, both new and old. I’ve got a good feeling about the coming season.”
The pre-season has obviously been a lot longer than usual, but the boys and staff have been fantastic and we’re all buzzing to get going.
“It’s been a long time and I love playing for this Club!”
However, due to COVID-19, the Club will unfortunately start the season with no fans, with all the games in the near future being played behind closed doors. Due to Concord’s status being classed as ‘Elite’, all National League Clubs and the Football League cannot have the same rules as any other non-league Club.
“Having no fans in is very frustrating! But as players and as a team, we just need to focus on playing and getting results for the Club.”
