On Thursday, 8th October, Concord Rangers Under 18s have their third FA Youth Cup game of the new season, competing in the Second Qualifying Round against Cockfosters FC after two very impressive performances in the previous two rounds. Chris Search speaks to Euan Rourke.

Manager, Chris Search, was delighted after beating Hullbridge Sports and Aveley FC 7-1 and 6-1 respectively.

“Our 1st game was always going to be a tough one against an old adversary in Hullbridge, but the boys dominated from start to finish running out comfortable. Up next was Aveley, who was a big unknown for us as a management team, but once again the boys showed their class winning 6-1.”

At the end of last season, the youth team saw second year players leave the team and 16-year-olds move up into the squad.

“I’ve been really happy with their performances so far, the group has changed a little over the preseason what with second years moving on, so we have a few from the previous Under 16s step in, plus a couple of other additions into the squad. I was always a slight unknown. However, I’m really happy with the group. We have a good balance in the team and a real togetherness.”

“It’s a privilege to manage them and watch them develop.”

The Concord Rangers Youth team have never qualified for the FA Youth Cup First Round Proper before, and this year’s team is only 2 games away.

“I think it’s a great tournament to be involved in.

“It’s a great experience for them as they get the opportunity to play under the lights, whether it’s home or away. They get to experience real old-fashioned football as it were.”

“It’s going to be a tough game away against Cockfosters. The boys will definitely have to be at their best to get a result that night. But against teams in and around our level I back us to get something!”
