Vanarama National League South

Concord Rangers 1

Hampton & Richmond Borough 0

Concord were sharp out the traps and really should have taken the lead when full back Rob Girdlestone made ground before cutting back to captain Steve Cawley who scuffed a golden opportunity from 10 yards square of goal.
Hampton carried a obvious threat to Concord but it was the beachboys with another good chance, Lewis Taaffe this time, dragging his shot just wide of the upright.
The Beachboys saw a hot penalty shout denied as Taaffe was grounded by Joshua Casey before the visitors went up the other end and almost took the lead shy of the halfway mark. Charlie Wassmer rose highest to head hard against the post when he should have done better.
Concord took the lead on the hour mark. A bit of neat play on the right wing and a beautifully held up cross by Ben Greenhalgh falls perfectly for Cawley, who powered his header past Seny Dieng to a loud applause from the home crowd.
Hampton threw the lofty Wassmer up front and went more direct in pursuit of an equaliser but Concord almost put the game to bed when Femi Akinwande was set through on goal. He elected to shoot instead of squaring for Greenhalgh but blasted his effort over the top.
Shaun Jeffers came closest to stealing a point for the visitors late on when his direct free kick cleanly struck the post but it was Concord who held on for a huge three points and their first clean sheet in the league since August.
