St Cleres Tournament
Recently Concord FC u 12 team entered the St Cleres Football Tournament in Stanford Le Hope..
In the previous matches Concord had struggled to take the drills and practice from training ground
into game mode despite the coaches belief it was the right coaching, however all these games (bar
one) the team were excellent in all areas of the field.
Starting off with 3 wins on the spin and creating many more chances than in previous matches and
allowing very few opportunities for the opposition. The teams pass & move ethos was outstanding
and with an effective new system the team were strong and resilient.
The day was breezy but hot and sunny, and in the 4th game some tired legs and minds were
apparent, and although losing 0-1 to Chelmsford City we had an equaliser disallowed..
So the final group game was against arguably the best side in this tournament Buckhurst Hill.
However we matched them in every department and had several chances to score, but eventually
ended 0-0 draw.
Concord proudly topped the group with 10 points and Buckhurst Hill finished 2nd.
Therefore the Elite Group Final was; Concord FC v Buckhurst Hill FC
This was again a similar affair to the last match and where chances were created and not taken, and
we looked strong defensively.. However from a final throw in Romie launched a massive throw into
the box that Ellis?s looping header over the keeper and into the net, but the referee decided
somehow to blow the whistle for full time at the point the ball was in the air.. not waiting until the
play ended.. but after some protest the referees decision (as you would expect) stood firm.
So we went to 5 mins of extra time, and still goalless. Therefore to penalties.. Unfortunately that?s
where our terrific journey ended finishing runners-up.
Although disappointing for everyone, the managers were quick to pick up on the positive points that
for 6 games on the spin a consistent performance was clear to see. That?s a first for this team
although capable are not always consistent. But we proved that the ethos of the coaching was
paying off.
