Concord Rangers vs Bath City

Saturday 11th January 2020

On Saturday Concord Rangers welcomed Bath City to the Aspect Arena for a 2nd round clash in the FA Trophy. This occasion marked the joint-furthest the beachboys have ever reached in this competition, with the only other being in 2015 when Danny Cowley helped to take the club to this round for the first time in the club’s history.

Concord’s starting lineup included; Chris Haigh, David Olufemi, Tom Clifford, Ben Wells, Aron Pollock, Billy Roast, Lamar Reynolds, Kreshnic Krasniqi, Kit Elliot, James Blanchfield and Joel Nouble. The substitutes included; Danny Green, Ryan Gondoh, Nathan Carlyle, Decarrey Sheriff, Ben Search, Alex Hernandez and Archie McFadden.

It didn’t take long at all for Concord to create their first chance of the game, as in the 3rd minute Krasniqi was awarded a penalty after being knocked down in the box by Bath City’s goalkeeper. Nouble stepped up to the spot, however his shot towards the bottom right corner was saved by the keeper and pushed onto the post. Shortly after, Krasniqi came close as his header went just wide of the post following a cross from James Blanchfied.

There was end-to-end action throughout the first half, with both teams creating good chances. Lamar Reynolds came close to scoring twice in the 26th minute for the beachboys, however this was closely followed by 2 opportunities for Bath City. Haigh made an excellent save following a low driven shot from the striker, sending the ball out for a corner. The corner was taken quickly and the ball fell to Tom Smith, whose shot bounced off the outside of the post.

One of the closest opportunities came to the boys in yellow just before half-time as Kit Elliot sent the ball across the face of the goal, finding Joel Nouble on the right side of the penalty area – who then crossed the ball back to Elliot in the box, his header flew only narrowly over the bar.

Half Time: Concord Rangers 0-0 Bath City

Bath had the first chance of the second half in the 53rd minute as Pearson’s shot was driven just wide of the post.

In the 77th minute the ball was sent into the box, eventually finding Aron Pollock at the back post who heads the ball past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net to put the beachboys 1-0 ahead.

Bath City responded very quickly, as in the 79th minute after the ball broke to Tom Smith, whose half volley flew into the back of the net, making the scoreline level.

There was a potential call for a Concord penalty in the final minutes of the game as Nouble’s shot was blocked by the defender, the beachboys were appealing for a handball however the referee signalled for the game to continue.

Full Time: Concord Rangers 1-1 Bath City

After an impressive and dominant performance, unfortunately the beachboys were unable to get the win and progress to the next round on Saturday. Due to the fact that the match ended in a draw, it has been scheduled to be replayed on Tuesday 14th January 2020, meaning Concord will be travelling to Twerton Park in Bath. Hopefully the boys will be able to continue their positive play and make history by progressing into the next round of the trophy.

*The Essex Senior Cup match vs Chelmsford which was due to be played on Tuesday will now be rearranged in due course*
