Vanarama National League South
Concord Rangers 0
Torquay United 1
Cameron 71
HT: 0-0
Att: 627
League leaders Torquay United take a huge stride towards the title as they overcame the hosting Beachboys by the narrowest of margins at a bitterly cold Aspect Arena.
A entertaining game with abundance of quality from both sides was nip and tuck from the off, and it were the visitors who came closest in the first half. Jamie Reid ghosted into a central position before striking strong with Sam Beasant diving to save low to his left.
The Gulls took the lead during a spell of mild pressure when Kyle Cameron nodded home his first goal of the season clean from a well-placed corner much to the delight of the United following faithful.
Concord were not content with their position and came on strong in the closing stages. A centrally positioned free kick was awarded, and substitute Danny Green swung it beautifully around the wall clattering the post before Lee Minshull’s follow up header forced an unbelievable save by Shaun MacDonald to keep the lead intact. Into injury time, and Rangers were awarded another promising free kick. Green once again delivered a dangerous ball, which Jack Midson headed agonisingly over the crossbar from close range.
