Goals from Temi Babalola & Lamar Reynolds helped Concord Rangers to secure all three points in a tough match against Hampton & Richmond Borough at the Aspect Arena on Saturday.
The beachboys were by far the dominant side in the first half of the game. Lamar Reynolds was close to opening the scoring in the 10th minute after receiving the ball just outside of the penalty area, however his low driven effort was dragged wide.
Hampton & Richmond created a great opportunity to take the lead just minutes later, but Myles Roberts made an outstanding save to stop the ball flying into the top corner. The beachboys instantly responded and travelled straight to the other end of the pitch where Temi Babalola received the ball before weaving through the defence, but his low shot was comfortably saved by the goalkeeper.
Concord broke the deadlock in the 28th minute as Reynolds received the ball before making a great run and sending a low cross to Babalola in the box, who then slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.
10 minutes later the lead was doubled as Babalola made a great run down the left side of the pitch before making a perfectly placed pass to Reynolds in the box, who then put the ball in the back of the net with his first touch.
The beachboys should have scored a third on the stroke of half time after a goal-line scramble, but the Hampton and Richmond defence and goalkeeper did well to keep the ball out.
Half Time: Concord Rangers 2-0 Hampton & Richmond Borough
Hampton & Richmond Borough came out all guns blazing for the early stages of the second half, putting the beachboys on the back foot. Former Concord attacker Ryan Gondoh almost got a goal back for the beavers just minutes into the half, but his shot was blocked by Ollie Kensdale.
It didn’t take long for Hampton & Richmond to get their first goal of the game as Jerome Slew went through on goal and sent a rocket of a shot past Roberts and into the net.
Roberts put in an outstanding performance in the second half to stop the beavers from equalising. 30 minutes before the final whistle the goalkeeper made two superb saves in quick succession to keep the beachboys ahead.
Concord did very well throughout the second half to keep Hampton & Richmond at bay whilst also continuing to create goalscoring opportunities. Babalola almost came close to extending the lead after showing great skill to get past the defence in the box.
The beavers had a few late chances to try and salvage a point but the solid Concord defence did well to maintain the score line.
