Horndon set off with the wind at a good pace and dominated much of the 1st half, but the performance was poor by the home side not showing what they can really do. Centre midfield area was being pulled all over the place, perhaps through lack of concentration, effort and not pressing the ball. However with a little luck and some good saves from Joe in the Concord goal, Horndon failed to take advantage of 4 or 5 clear opportunities to score and could easily been well ahead.

However Concord’s dogged approach started to pay off, when a great run down the right by Sam beating the close attention of two Horndon players managed to hit a low cross into the near post that Nathan touched in from a tight angle with an outstretched leg.

Another attack that started and finished down the left flank when BaileyP took on a couple of defenders and his initial cross was blocked, but rebounded back to him and he smashed the ball into the top of the net.

Happy to be 2-0 up at the break against the run.

Second half

Concord seemed to tighten up in centre midfield area and pressed the ball much better and as they started to play better pass & move football and compressed the game, and it seemed to work creating many more chances that the Horndon keeper did well to save on several occasions.  But a 20 yrd free kick from outside the box was placed firmly over the wall and past the keeper into the roof of the net by Romie, making it 3-0.

So Concord continued attacking causing some panic in the visitors defence and with some good defending kept their attack at bay.  But near the end there was some confusion over a throw-in when awarded to Horndon, it was intercepted by Nathan, and with a little move he rifled the ball into the top of the net from 20yds for 4-0.

This win keeps Concord in 3rd in the Southend Premier Division.
