Tomorrow afternoon the Beachboys host Hungerford Town in National league south action, our opposition have found life tough in the opening 4 games of the season only picking up a rather dismal 2 points out of a possible 12, despite a 6-0 thrashing against our rivals, Chelmsford City there are however positives to take from games, a draw at home to Wealdstone and a draw away to Hemel Hempstead would feel more like a win to the Hungerford faithful against strong opposition.
Taking a look at the ‘Crusaders’ attendances, an impressive 435 turned up for their opening home game of the season against Wealdstone, that followed by a 279 crowd at home to Chelmsford, up from last seasons average, even though its early doors.
In the 2015/ 16 season, Hungerford Town were promoted from the Southern League, south and west division, beating Leamington 2-1 in the final which saw them secure National league South status, to many’s surprise, Hungerford would go onto finish the 2016/17 season in 6th place, despite finishing out of the play offs, 5th placed Poole Town weren’t allowed to be promoted so Hungerford gained a play off spot only for it to be taken away very swiftly, they didn’t have the number of seats in the stadium to be able to go into the National League.
The 2017/18 season was quite the opposite, the ‘Crusaders’ would finish off in 19th place, 1 spot above the relegation zone, despite the league table finish, many Hungerford Town fans were pleased to see their club remain in the National league South again.
