As the club embarks on another FA trophy campaign, a competition that hasn’t been kind to us, we look back at the clubs furthest run in the competition back in the 14/15 season, Danny Cowley’s last season.
3rd Qualifying round: Boreham Wood Home 4-0 29/11/2014
Boreham Wood, flying high at the summit of the Conference South and would go on to win the league in that season were our 1st hurdle in the competition and on paper a very tough tie. However, Concord run out convincing 4-0 winners on the day in very tough conditions, with all 4 goals coming in the 1st half!
Line up: Vickers, Walker, Glozier, Woodyard, King, Lampe, Gardner, White (Miles), Taffe (Cawley), Collins (Ogilvie), Stokes
Goals: Stokes, Taaffe, White, Gardner
1st Round: Barnet Home 0-0 13/12/2014
After drawing the highest placed team in the previous round our luck continued as the national league teams entered and we were drawn with the league leaders Barnet, led by mad dog Martin Allen! A gritty performance on a cold winter’s day ensued and we ground out a 0-0 draw to take Barnet back to the hive, the result even more impressive as Danny Glozier was given a straight red after 50 minutes as we held the runaway leaders and eventful national league champions at bay for over 40 minutes!
Line up: Vickers, Walker, Glozier, Woodyard, King, Lampe (Fry) , Collins, White, Stokes (Taaffe), Cawley (Pinnock), Gardner
1st Round replay: Barnet away 2-6 16/12/2014
After the gritty performance from the boys 4 days previous, Martin Allen thinking the tie was won, handed the reins to his youth manager to take the game. This come back to bite them as Concord produced a 6 goal masterclass to completely outplay the national league champions. On a pitch suited to passing football Danny Cowley got the players playing the best football of the season and showing the class we had in the squad!
Line Up: Vickers, Walker, Glozier, Woodyard, King, Fry, Collins, White, Cawley (Miles) , Taaffe (Stokes), Gardner (Pinnock)
Goals: Cawley (2) Collins, Taaffe, Pinnock, Stokes
2nd Round: Hemel Hempstead Away 10/01/2015
Our next tie saw us travel the short distance to Hemel Hempstead, on paper our easiest draw of the competition. However our adventure ended abruptly at this stage, a fast start by the hosts out Concord on the back foot but they battled back and got a goal back but a mistake at the back let Hemel in for a 3rd late in the game to kill the game off and land a plum tie at home to ex league side Torquay
Line up: Vickers, Walker, Glozier (Pinnock) , Woodyard (Stokes), Lampe, Fry, Collins, White, Taaffe, Cawley, Ogilvie (Miles)
A little throwback for you all to get your appetite wet for the start of a new FA trophy adventure, with Danny Scopes and the class of 2019/2020.
