We spoke to captain James White about the last week at the club, read what James has to say below…
A couple of disappointing defeats in the last week, how determined are you as captain of the side that the team bounces back with a win on Saturday?
The whole team have been disappointed with the last few results, especially against Chelmsford who are our closest rivals. Some of our performances have not been up to scratch which will have some people question if we will survive in this league…inside closed doors this could not be more wrong. We have a couple of things we need to tweak, however the commitment of everyone at Concord is still as high as ever. Saturday will be like every game we play, we want to win and nothing else matters.
You mention tweaks, what areas can the team improve on?
Facts show that we have conceded the most goals in the league, I believe. So defending for us is paramount, this is not purely the back four but as a collective we need to address this, everyone needs to take responsibility on the pitch.
Is it just a case of cutting out the individual errors?
Errors will always happen, but it is how we react to those errors. Basically we need to help out our mates out on the pitch more.
How are you enjoying being captain of the side? What do you think your leadership offers?
I’m very pleased to captain the side, since being at the club I have learnt from Stokesy and Kingy about what the club is about and how best to lead on the park. I would like to think I have respect at the club and within the dressing room. Inside that dressing room harsh words are sometimes expressed, but are meant with the best of intentions. I will always expect the best from the boys as they do from me. It’s also about helping Flan and Jodie with the transition and making sure what needs to be done gets done. Plus I’ve played a game or two at this level which may help 😉
Moving to the weekend’s game, Whitehawk have only lost one game this season. Can the boys get back to winning ways?
I have no real interest in talking about Whitehawk, they have always been a good side with good resources, so I’m not surprised they are there. My main concern is to train well and be fully prepared for the game. We have a lot to prove to ourselves individually and Saturday will require a reaction. I’m only thinking about a win.
