So this is it, the final home game of the 2015/16 Vanarama National League South season for Concord Rangers. After a summer of change, this year was about rebuilding and consolidation, and we again exceeded expectations by challenging for the playoffs up until this past week, along with winning our third Essex Senior Cup in as many years.
The lads have put in some outstanding performances since we got under way last summer, we’ve had plenty of ups and downs with unbeaten runs and some very tough losses, but I think that we can call this season a success when all is said and done.
This has been my 6th season following this club, my 2nd as programme editor and as a committee member, it’s not been easy as putting this together each week can take a lot of time and you do rely on opposition teams to provide their info in time to edit and put together, I’ve also missed more games this season than I have in the last few years thanks to a change in my work shifts. But when it comes down to it, when I look back on the year we’ve had, I’ve bloody enjoyed it, cheering on the lads from the sidelines, and sharing in their success (see the picture on this page).
At the game today one of the committee members will be collecting your votes for Concords supporters player of the season, to be announced at the club presentation night next month. There’s been plenty of solid and consistent performances over the season, so I’m sure there will be a number of names chosen. As for my choice, well I’m keeping that one close to my chest at the moment and wouldn’t want to influence your decisions at all!
I know the teams playoff chances were killed off this past Tuesday in the loss to Truro City here at the Aspect Arena, but with two games to go (including today obviously) let’s get behind the lads and make sure that the season ends with a couple of wins and 6 points to add to our tally! On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to thank you for your loyal and continued support over the season, and we look forward to seeing you back here at Thames Road for what will be our 4th season at National League South level!
