CONCORD’S legenday midfielder Nicky Cowley has retired from playing to become assistant manager to his brother Danny Cowley at the Vanarama South club.
Nicky made the decision to hang up his boots after a long battle with a knee problem, which required surgery.
He will now take over the No 2 position at the Beachboys vacated by the popular Glen Alzapiedi, who has left to become manager at Ryman One North side Cheshunt.
Nicky, who was already on the coaching staff, is one of Concord’s most decorated players.
The combative central midfielder retires having helped secure three promotions with an Essex Senior League winners’ medal and play-off success in Ryman One North and the Ryman Premier.
The former club captain has also lifted the Ryman League Cup and Essex Senior Cup, and has regularly featured in the club’s end od season players’ awards.
