The Good, the Bad and the Ugly…
Half way through the month things were looking good but a testing final two weeks cost Rangers their FA Cup place, and perhaps an early October play-off place too. Still, tenth at the 12 game mark is encouraging – but it could be even more.
The month’s high point?
The win over Hampton was a ruthless display of finishing.
What about the others in September?
Still, Wealdstone are flying – an impressive five points clear already. But in fact the team of the month were actually Slough Town who enjoyed four straight Vanarama National League South wins in a row. Weymouth, Dorking and Braintree all took ten points from their four matches. Winless September sides Dulwich, Oxford City and Eastbourne will want better.
Concord’s star man?
Chris Haigh has certainly impressed, but Lamar Reynolds once again hasn’t let anyone down.
From the manager’s office:
Danny Scopes always speaks with passion. After “probably letting the club down,” in the FA Cup, he said they simply must be better in both boxes in October after three straight defeats ended last month.
There’s great news on that front, crowds are well up on last season. An average of 543 have watched home games so far this season, compared to 413 in 2018-19.
How do things compare to last September?
In terms of the Vanarama National League South, it’s identical. Four points from four games, with two hard-to-take defeats. Good news? October was so much better.
Who are the red hot strikers?
Havant hitman Jonah Ayunga still leads the way with nine but the scoring charts are tight. Second is Wealdstone striker Ross Lafayette with eight while Liam Nash of Hemel Hempstead, Billericay goal king Jake Robinson, Jason Prior of Dorking and St Albans’ Joe Iaciofano all have seven each.
What does October look like?
Two very winnable home matches, Chippenham and Hungerford, before a tough one – and a reunion with a certain former manager!
