Vanarama National League South
St Albans City 2
Concord Rangers 1
It was a day of rueing missed chances for the Beachboys as they fell to their second defeat in three matches this past Monday when they travelled to St Albans City.
The Beachboys started brightly on this very hot August bank holiday, in front of an unusually low home City crowd. While it was fairly even for the first 5-10 minutes, Reynolds was bundled to the ground in the 18 yard box early on and shouts went up for the penalty, however it was waved off, anywhere else on the pitch though and you could be sure it would be called for a foul.
Then after some continued Concord attack, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock on 15 minutes after Joe Iaciofano was left totally unmarked and latched on to a Bobson Bawling pass to slot home past Chris Haigh.
The rest of the half remained fairly even, with the hosts pressuring the visitors high up the pitch, and the Beachboys being unable to break through with the chances they were creating. Nothing came from at least two goal-mouth scrambles, and after Nouble clipped a cross in Lamar Reynolds headed over the bar from close in.
Concord finished the half stronger, and started the second half the same way as further chances were created for and by Sheriff, Reynolds and Nouble. The introduction of Krasniqi and Green as the half progressed added to the Beachboys attacking arsenal, but despite the chances, including a one on one for Sheriff, Concord were unable to hit the back of the net.
Frustration was growing for the away side, and that got worse when on the 87th minute City sub Darren Foxley cut in from the right and struck a belter past the Concord ‘keeper.
Just before the added time announcement the Beachboys finally hit the back of the net, as sub Brett McGavin curled a cracking shot past Dean Snedker in the St Albans goal. Even with 4 added minutes it was too little too late for Concord Rangers, suffering a disappointing defeat on the road.
