CONCORD u12         3

Concord u12 made it into the last 16 county cup emphatically beating league rivals Leighwood Black with a the bare minimum of 9 player due to illness, and Max had a sore heel but played his part in this match.

Concord were tactically spot on in how the game was played as started the match playing into the gusty, powerful wind setting up 2-1-4-1 that kept the home side quiet and limited them to a few shots from free kicks that Joe in goal dealt with well making a so fine saves.  Defensively the team played well with all players tracking their men and ensuring nothing was left to chance.   It was a one of a few counter attacks in the first period that created the first goal with a strong burst out by Sam and some neat passing with Romie which left the on form  Nathan to created something out of nothing by prodding home between two defenders. HT 0-1.

Second half set up 2-5-1 still the strong emphasis to dominate midfield with the wind worked well, with Bailey P making some surging runs, Romie having a few long range shots, and Ellis sitting in the hole in midfield in front of Freddy and Bailey R, looked a solid combination.  A free kick just inside the opponents half saw Romie’s shot fumbled by the unfortunate Leighwood keeper and see the ball cross the line into the net for 0-2.  More pressure with the wind by Concord forced a corner that Sam swung into the goalmouth that looked to have crossed over the line but ‘play on’ was the call by the referee.. Another free kick to Concord from a similar position at half way saw Romie’s shot again get fumbled by the hapless keeper that rounded the score up to 0-3, a fine result that leaves the u12’s unbeaten in last 6 games and into the last 16 of the County Cup..
